The course aims to provide the training in the basic theory and use GMDSS equipment fitted to vessels sailing in sea area A1 in accordance with the requirements of STCW Code.
The course is designed for all future deck officers who participate in navigation and watchkeeping on the bridge, skippers and pilots who are in charge of navigation and watchkeeping in ships engaged in navigation in sea area A1 that meet the conditions set in the Regulation on ranks and certification of seafarers (Official Gazette of Montenegro number 55/2013).
Candidates successfully completing the course will be able to understand the principles and to efficiently operate the GMDSS equipment. They will gain theoretical and practical knowledge and ability to use the basic equipment of a ship station, EPIRB and SART. Understand the purpose of MSI and the operation and use of NAVTEX and to have primary responsibility to radio communications during Distress incident (SAR Operation and Distress, Urgency and Safety communication procedures in GMDSS).

The course takes full account of the detailed outline set in D.29. part of the Regulation on ranks and certification of seafarers (Official Gazette Montenegro number 55/2013).
The course is fully compliant with the IMO Model Course 1.26.
